Seattle Christmas Lights and Winter Events Near Interbay, 2026

Seattle Christmas Lights and Winter Events Near Interbay, 2026

Holiday lights in the trees at Seattle Center with the Space Needle at night

TL;DR: The closest big holiday show to Interbay is Seattle Center Winterfest, November 27 to December 31, 2026, about 10 minutes away on the D Line. For Seattle Christmas lights beyond that, WildLanterns at Woodland Park Zoo runs November 13, 2026 to January 17, 2027, and the Argosy Christmas Ship sings to the shore at Golden Gardens on December 10 and the Ballard Locks on December 23. Some favorites, like the downtown tree lighting and Candy Cane Lane, had not posted 2026 dates when we checked, so confirm those before you go.

Key takeaways

  • Winterfest is the easy win: free campus lights, a model train, weekend shows and a New Year’s Eve party, one bus ride away.
  • The Seattle Christmas Market runs November 20 to December 27 at Seattle Center’s Fisher Pavilion and South Fountain Lawn.
  • WildLanterns is open 4 to 9 p.m., last entry 8:30, and closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
  • The Christmas Ship Festival runs November 27 to December 23, with two shoreline stops close to Interbay.
  • Most of these trips are easier by bus than by car in December.

Seattle Center Winterfest, the Closest Big Show

Seattle Center Winterfest runs November 27 to December 31, 2026, on the Seattle Center grounds. From the D Line stop at 15th Ave W and W Dravus St, the ride to Queen Anne Ave N and W Mercer St takes about 10 minutes on the schedule, and the campus is a short walk from there.

What Is On

  • Campus lighting: lights in the trees and other light features across the grounds, best after dark.
  • Winter Train and Village: a late 19th-century model train and village inside the Armory, open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Visitors can run the train between 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
  • Ice sculpting: carvers work each Saturday during Winterfest from noon at the Mural Amphitheatre.
  • Friday movie nights: free holiday films at 6:30 p.m. in the Armory, starting with The Polar Express on November 27 and ending with Elf on December 18.
  • Weekend stage shows: live performances on the Armory Stage every weekend from November 27 to December 27.

The Christmas Market and New Year’s Eve

The Seattle Christmas Market fills the Fisher Pavilion and South Fountain Lawn from November 20 to December 27, with more than 60 vendors, live entertainment, hot chocolate and Glühwein. On December 31, the free New Year’s Eve celebration runs in the Armory from 8 p.m. to midnight, with a Fountain of Light show at the International Fountain at 9 p.m. and the Space Needle’s midnight show overhead.

Christmas Ships From the Shoreline

The Argosy Christmas Ship Festival returns November 27 to December 23, 2026. Each sailing carries a live choir that shares holiday music with people gathered along the shoreline, and listening from shore costs nothing.

Three shoreline stops are within easy reach of Interbay:

  • Golden Gardens Beach, Thursday, December 10: the 8 p.m. sailing from Shilshole Bay Marina performs offshore from 8:15 to 8:35 p.m. Argosy marks this stop as a planned public bonfire, lighting or onshore event. It is about 4.4 miles away by car.
  • Pier 62, Thursday, December 17: sailings from Pier 55 perform at Pier 62 from 5:10 to 5:30 p.m. and 8:10 to 8:30 p.m., also marked as onshore events. It is about 3.5 miles from the building.
  • Ballard Locks, Wednesday, December 23: the Grand Finale’s 2 p.m. sailing performs at the Locks from 2:35 to 2:55 p.m. No organized event is planned there, but you can listen from shore. It is about 2.4 miles by car.

Argosy notes that schedule details and onshore activities can change, and that local shoreline communities, not Argosy, run the bonfires. Check the 2026 Christmas Ship schedule the week you plan to go.

A choir on the water, a bonfire on the sand and the lights of Shilshole behind you. Some of the best holiday nights here cost nothing.

WildLanterns at Woodland Park Zoo

WildLanterns lights up Woodland Park Zoo from November 13, 2026 to January 17, 2027. Hours are 4 to 9 p.m., with last entry at 8:30 p.m. The zoo is closed on several dates, including Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

  • Tickets: entry is timed, and nights can sell out, so buying ahead online is the safe choice. The event runs rain or shine.
  • Distance: the zoo is about 2.6 miles from the building by car, on Phinney Ridge.

The full calendar of closed dates and special nights is on the zoo’s WildLanterns page.

Seattle Christmas Lights Downtown and in the Neighborhoods

Two of the city’s best-known holiday traditions had not announced 2026 details when we checked in late October. Here is what we know, and what to confirm.

The Downtown Tree Lighting

The Downtown Seattle Association’s Tree Lighting Celebration in 2025 was held on Friday, November 28, the day after Thanksgiving, at Westlake Center. At 5 p.m. the 45-foot tree and the Holiday Star lit up, followed by fireworks. Check the 2026 schedule with the association before you plan around it. On the D Line, downtown is about 20 minutes from Interbay.

Candy Cane Lane

Candy Cane Lane, on Park Road NE off NE Ravenna Blvd near Ravenna Park, is a neighborhood display with roots in a 1940s holiday decorating contest. It is free, and visitors are asked to bring canned goods for the University District Food Bank. Last season it ran December 6, 2025 to January 1, 2026, according to ParentMap. Check the 2026 schedule on the organizers’ page, since dates, hours and walk-only nights change year to year. It is about 5.4 miles from Interbay by car.

Getting There Without the Parking Hunt

December parking near Seattle Center, the zoo and downtown is the part of the night nobody enjoys. From Interbay, the bus handles most of it.

If you only want a few outings, this order works around the dates we could confirm:

  • Mid November: WildLanterns opens November 13, before the holiday rush.
  • Late November: the Christmas Market from November 20, then Winterfest from November 27.
  • December 10 or 17: a Christmas Ship night at Golden Gardens or Pier 62.
